The Number of Views of Piecewise-Smooth Algebraic Objects

چکیده
A solid object in 3-dimensional space may be described by a collection of all its topologically distinct 2-dimensional appearances, its aspect graph. In this paper, we study the complexity of aspect graphs of piecewise-smooth algebraic objects using the modern tools of algebraic geometry, i.e. intersection theory, multiple-point theory and enumerative geometry. We give a bound on the number of different appearances of such objects, an indication of the computational complexity of aspect graphs.

Arithmetic Teichmuller Theory
By Grothedieck's Anabelian conjectures, Galois representations landing in outer automorphism group of the algebraic fundamental group which are associated to hyperbolic smooth curves defined over number fields encode all arithmetic information of these curves. The goal of this paper is to develope and arithmetic teichmuller theory, by which we mean, introducing arithmetic objects summarizing th...
متن کاملOn the Convex Hulls of Parametric Plane Curves
Linear-time convex hull algorithms are known to exist for polygons and planar objects bounded by piecewise algebraic curves. Most of the existing algorithms laboriously trace out the so-called “pockets” formed by the concave portions of an object’s boundary. Objects bounded by general parametric curves have been excluded from the previous study partly because the nature of computation is seemin...
متن کاملNotes on the Complexity of Exact View Graph Algorithms for Piecewise Smooth Algebraic Surfaces
The view graph of a surface N in 3-space is a graph embedded in the spaceV of centers or directions of projection, whose nodes correspond to maximal connected regions of V which yield equivalent views of N . The size of the view graph of a piecewise smooth algebraic surface N with transverse self-intersection curves and isolated triple-points and cross-caps is O(nK dimVd6 dimV ), where n and d ...
متن کاملOpen and Closed String Field Theory Interpreted in Classical Algebraic Topology
There is an interpretation of open string field theory in algebraic topology. An interpretation of closed string field theory can be deduced from this open string theory to obtain as well the interpretation of open and closed string field theory combined. The algebraic structures derived from the first string interactions are related to algebraic models discussed in work of (Atiyah-Segal), (Moo...
متن کاملWidth Function of Curved Objects in Space and Optimal Bounding Boxes
We study the width function of piecewise smooth algebraic surface patches | that function which relates the distance between the closest pair of parallel planes enclosing the object to the direction of this pair of planes. The construction of this piece-wise smooth function arises from problems in Computer Aided Manufacturing where a coordinate measurement machine (CMM) is used to determine the...
